Cree Joins Hands with Gospower to Bring SiC Solutions to the Server Power Supply Market

Apr 11, 2024

Cree, Inc. (NASDAQ: CREE), a leading player in the global silicon carbide (SiC) technology field through its Wolfspeed business, recently announced a successful collaboration with our company.

Gospower, a leading company specializing in power electronic products and a national high-tech enterprise, will incorporate Cree's Wolfspeed® 650V SiC MOSFET into its next-generation Common Redundant Power Supply (CRPS) solution. With the continuous rapid expansion of cloud storage demand, Gospower's adoption of Wolfspeed SiC technology will enable superior power efficiency, contributing to the overall enhancement of China's server power market and providing stronger support for the data storage needs of the Chinese market.

Thanks to the rapid development of industries such as cloud computing, AI (Artificial Intelligence), distributed storage, and 5G, the demand for server power and computational power has significantly increased. The Wolfspeed 650V SiC MOSFET brings high efficiency through low switching and conduction losses, as well as offering high power density. Its outstanding features include smaller size, lighter weight, and fewer components. Customers can efficiently utilize power, reduce cooling requirements, and achieve industry-leading reliability, resulting in benefits through lower overall costs.

This will facilitate the faster introduction of leading server power solutions in the industry.Mr. Ruan Shiliang, CEO of Gospower, stated, "To meet the growing demand for power solutions with higher efficiency, smaller size, and higher power density, we have partnered with Cree to develop applications using its Wolfspeed® 650V SiC MOSFET that can potentially transform the Chinese server market. Our next-generation CRPS solution will position Gospower as a leader in the field and effectively support the data storage needs of the Chinese market."

The 2200W/2400W/2600W 185mm CRPS solution developed by Gospower utilizes Wolfspeed SiC MOSFETs in its totem pole bridgeless PFC design. This device contributes to the development of efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solutions, capable of operating at higher temperatures and achieving lower switching losses, zero reverse recovery, and higher power density within smaller dimensions.

Gregg Lowe, CEO of Cree, stated, "As a specialized and powerful global semiconductor company, Cree is strategically positioned to lead the transition from Si to SiC. Across the globe, our Wolfspeed® SiC devices are driving continuous advancements in technological solutions through enhanced efficiency and performance, resulting in smaller and more scalable power systems. This solution will contribute to the advancement of power domains, while also demonstrating that our collaboration with industry-leading companies like Gospower will drive significant innovation with SiC."

Gospower's outstanding achievements in advanced technological innovation, combined with Cree's Wolfspeed SiC technology, will empower the realization of superior server equipment in its class.
